I made a pledge to myself, after the Democratic Primary ended, that I would no longer try to assume I could judge what other people, particularly ones from a different socioeconomic background, think about this election. I refuse to assume that the rest of America is too dumb, Christian, racist or Conservative to vote for Obama, and I refuse to try and bend my thinking to appease these stereotypes in an attempt to compromise with a straw man. Every time I hear someone say “Well, Middle America will react to this differently than we will,” I cringe. Nobody wants to be told by people who think they’re smarter than them how they are supposed to feel. I want no part of that.

So just remember, when you read or hear someone explain today that “regular people” won’t understand the cover above, ask yourself if the pundit considers himself one of these “regular people”. Or if he even regularly talks politics with his definition of a “regular person.” Then try to figure out what you think. It’s a complicated and uncomfortable one and i may not be easy to come to a black or white conclusion, but at the end of the day, your opinion is really all that matters.

Personally, I think it’s an interesting statement about the biggest and darkest cloud that has been hanging over the campaign so far. Better for someone to confront it directly in a way like this to get a conversation going, rather than try to brush it off or tiptoe around.

Walking over to my local ATT store at 8am seemed like a good idea at the time. I told myself if there were less than 20 people there I’d wait. The line stretched from the Astor place intersection at Broadway, down the block and around the 8th street corner. I went home.

I’ll walk by again on my way to work just in case they’re super efficient and managed to get through that line by 930. Then I’ll check the store near my office to see if that line died down there. Then I’ll try that store again at lunch to see if they’re somehow not sold out yet. I may be at work late, but if I can get out at a reasonable hour, and the Apple stores aren’t sold out yet (they will be) I’ll run up/down there and pick one up on the way home.

THEN, tomorrow, if this all doesn’t work out, I’ll fly to Cleveland and start over there.
