Raise your hand if you’re surprised.
I have tried several times to figure out how to buy a dumb ticket to see this dumb team next year, but they don’t make it very easy. I know for a while that you had to pay a $200 non-refundable deposit to even see how much a season ticket package would cost, and they’ve since been drooling out various nonsensical ticket packages with no...
First Breath After Coma
I was listening to the Stuff You Should Know podcast earlier about comas, and was thinking about how crazy it would be if you got knocked out and woke up 10 years later, like some people occasionally do. My first reaction would be disbelief, of course, that 10 years went by in a flash like that, and I would insist to see a newspaper. Then I realized the nurse’s response would be something...

‘According to a report from ABC News, President Obama is not taking kindly to corporate greed, especially when it’s funded by taxpayer money. Read more from ABC here:
The high-flying execs at Citigroup caved under pressure from President Obama and decided today to abandon plans for a luxurious new $50 million corporate jet from France…...

Kind of makes you appreciate Linkin Park, huh.

Ah Doc, good to see you’re keeping up with the kids.
Bad Movie Marathon!
This was unintentional, but when you wake up and start watching Jumper at 9:30, it’s how the day usually shapes up.
Resident Evil: Degeneration is up next, which is like watching a 90 minute video game cut scene. But it fills the gap between one of my favorite games of all time and one of my most anticipated of 2009…so, kind of have to watch, righT? Maybe 30 Days of Night on Starz to...
Just got Mario Kart for Wii

Ian on the failure of the Sega Dreamcast →
marco:
Ian cites good reasons, including:
The awful timing of its release: 6 months before the PS2. Hardware-wise, it fit in with its market timing: it was more advanced than the Nintendo 64 but less advanced than the PS2 (and couldn’t play DVDs). So it was only the best system on the market for those 6 months.
Game piracy. I think this was less of an issue than Ian thinks — sure, geeks...
Random Wii Recommendation: Wario Land: Shake It →
There should be more games like this on the system. Simple side scrolling platformer with really sharp, 2D graphics and natural, non intrusive motion controls mixed in. Feels like the successor to Duck Tales for the NES, which was a personal fav growing up.
Also: It had an enjoyable web ad campaign (video).
Random Movie Recommendation: Transsiberian →
Watched it last night on instant Netflix. I had never heard of it and can’t even remember how I came across it, but it combines my fascinations with long distance train travel, Post-Soviet intrigue and Kate Mara. I enjoyed it a lot.
Bioshock
tiffany:
I actually took the time to beat this game. For anyone wondering, it was not worth it.
Harsh! I loved it last year, but it does already seem dated after some of the games that have been released since. Far Cry 2 has changed the game for shooters.
Feel Good Internet Story of the Week: The Rebel FM... →
So earlier this week, 1up.com got sold to UGO.com, who promptly fired a large chunk of the editorial staff. A handful of those guys, now unemployed, banded together to launch a new weekly podcast to talk about games. Without any real promotion, aside from the guys’ twitter feeds and word of mouth, the podcast is not only atop the videogame podcasts list, but now the #4 #2 podcast in America,...

I wonder what kind of TV they’re playing on?
Tough day for video game fans: 1up.com gets bought... →
I don’t really know what goes into a lot of what 1up.com does, but their podcast network is the best in the business. Those shows, along with Joystiq’s, have done an amazing job getting me excited about games again over the last couple of years. I spend often up to a combined 10 hours a week (I know…) listening to these guys talk about games, and from the looks of it,...

– James Rabbit Goes Crazy: 12/01/2008 - 01/01/2009
I’ve never made the connection between Girl Talk and those late-night ads before, but that is exactly spot on. I knew many of those oldies growing up only in that few second clip, to the point where if the song came on the radio one day,...
